Hunting and Fishing Offenses: Keeping an Illegal Fish

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland

I received a ticket recently for possession of a couple of fish that you are not allowed to posses. Long story short, I kept some baitfish that I was unaware you could not keep. I was truthfully unaware of the rules, but ignorance is not an excuse.

I received a fine, which I will be more than happy to pay, does me paying the fine means I am guilty. My biggest fear is that I will have a criminal record. Everything I have read is inconclusive regarding having a criminal record, or is it a simple misdemeanor.
