Following Too Closely: Best Course of Action for a "Failure to Stop Within an Assured Clear Distance" Ticket

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Michigan

On 10/17/17, I received a ticket for "Failure to stop within an assured clear distance" 2310.627 (1). I'm looking for advice on what my best course of action should be for this ticket. My preferred outcome is having the points reduced.

I've been driving for about 5 years now, and this is my first offense that has any points related to it (Previous two tickets are for 75 in a 70 (no points, $115 fine) 3-4 years ago, and no insurance ($500, no points, but lots of drivers responsibility fees) about a year ago). So my record isn't perfect, but it's not by any means terrible either.

Details relevant to the accident: **Some of these claims will have been according to the driver that I hit (Driver A). These statements are coming from her and not from me because, as one of my main "bad circumstances" of the accident go, the accident occurred on a very hilly road, with me just approaching the crest of the hill, unable to see any farther ahead besides the car that I hit in front of me.**

According to the driver A, her, along with a line of about 3 other cars in front of her, had to make an emergency stop for (reason unknown). This got to the point where the driver in front of A and driver A actually had to slightly swerve into the middle turning lane in order to avoid accidents themselves. As stated, I was just approaching the crest of the hill, unable to see any of this happening besides Driver A slamming on the brakes and swerving. This also occurred at about 9:30 am, right when the sun had risen past the point of the hill crest, which definitely played a role in me not clearly seeing her brake lights until it was too late.

Once the officer arrived, we both explained what happened, and the other driver sounded as though she was vouching for me, stating that with how things happened in front of her and how close everyone was to accidents in front, that it wasn't a huge surprise that someone who didn't have visibility of all that happening wouldn't be able to react fast enough.

When all was said and done, of course, I received the ticket. The exact words of the officer handing me the ticket were "I'm sorry about the situation and bad circumstances, but I am going to have to give you the ticket because of an accident being involved."

I would like to say that I do take responsibility for the accident. There is no need to say "Well, even despite the circumstances, you are still at fault." I am aware of this, and I know that if I had been following at a slightly further distance, this all would have been avoided. With that being said though, this is my first hearing I've ever attended (letter states informal hearing) and any advice on what to expect and if there is something that may help my goal of point reduction (how to plead, etc etc) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
