My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Texas
I am a former resident of Mississippi. I moved to TX 1 year and 5 months ago. I was working for a university in MS where I was being garnished for a voluntary repossession of a car that my ex wife owned. The collection agency called me a few months ago about the balance owed. I have feared that they will submit a garnishment of my wages again while I am trying to piece my life back together from the divorce. I learned recently that Texas law limits who can garnish residents' wages, which auto creditors is not allowed to do so. However, I read somewhere else that is a garnishment order was in place at your home state, Texas must allow the garnishment to take effect of the current Texas resident. I am confused and need some concrete advice/answers. Basically, all I want to know is can they garnish my wages since I have moved to Texas?
