My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California
Hello,
I saw a few charges on my virtual one time use prepaid card visa from a USENEXT,I believe I attempted to sign up to a free trial a few times to said site with said card with low funds. The prepaid card was created on 5/18/2017 and the attempted charge of 3.42 USD or 2.94 EUR was tried on 5/19/2017.The last attempted charge was on 5/25/2017 for 3.44 USD or 2.96 EUR.(I only had 3.01 USD at the time of the charges so they all failed due to insufficient funds)
I believe this was an authentication charge as stated in their terms
"When the Agreement begins, the Payment Service Provider (PSP) of the Provider has a right to reserve or deduct and reimburse a small amount of money (less than $5.00 US) from the credit card or PayPal account or iDeal account to verify the customer’s authentication"
There was not enough funds in said prepaid card so the attempted 'test charge' failed.I called their support line right before closing time and was able to get a rep for a short time,I asked them my question and they said something along the lines of if the authentication charge could not be made that free trial would close in 10 days.
Also on their site it states "You can test UseNeXT for 14 days free of charge and cancel any time",and then it says " If you do not cancel or choose a different package within the free trial period, your contract will automatically be extended into our appealing Smart+ package with an optimal cost-benefit ratio (30 GB for 7.95€/mon., therefore 95.35€/year, incl. VAT)" which is of course no where near the amount attempted on the prepaid card.
I will call when they open again on Monday to try and get them to confirm that the if the authentication charge fails that the free trial is closed/void and that the auto-renewal would never happen since said authentication charge failed, but for now I would like all and any of your opinions on if you believe this was in fact an authentication charge, and if you believe that since it failed that the free trial would be canceled/close and no auto-renewal would start.I ask this because this company is known for begin scummy with their debt collection and it would be helpful if the auto-renewal never started, the card was never charged for any charge resembling a plan they have so I don't think I'm on a plan.
Thank you for your time.
