My question involves real estate located in the State of: Florida
We were supposed to close on September 15th, both selling our home and buying another on the same day. Irma blew through and set us back about two weeks and repairs had to be made to the property we were buying (mostly downed trees), but we were back on and everything was settled for closing on Thursday, Sept. 29th. Well, we got the truck loaded on the 28th and got everything cleaned and prepped for the new owners, only to find out we were only closing on the house we were moving out of, not the one we were supposed to move into. The first delay had something to do with the amount of time the home had been on the property, being a manufactured home, but that info is clearly stated on all the closing documents. NOW there's a problem with the homes the appraiser used to do the comparison with and they want some explanation of why he chose the properties he did. It's really crazy stuff, and in the meantime, I'm paying for a 26' U-Haul truck at about $60 a day, two storage units because I didn't have any A/C place to store my guitars or temperature sensitive items, plus two hotel rooms every single night (I snore so the wife and I get different rooms), eating out every night, not to mention my concern about my furniture being stored on end in order to fit in the truck and lots of artwork that's also in there that's sensitive to humidity. I'm sure there's going to be damage.
But it seems these people can choose any reason at all to delay closing and we have no recourse. We're quickly running out of money and have literally no where to go and we're likely to be out several thousand dollars in excess expenditures when this is all said and done. The likely closing date is now October 10th because of the Columbus Day holiday, but may even be later than that. I can't get a clear answer or definite date.
I just like to know if there's any way to put pressure on this lender and any way to recoup any of our losses coming out of this. This move has just about ruined us and I'm having to stay with family now and drive 2 hours one way into work.
