My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Washington
I was making a left-hand turn into an intersection after stopping at the stop sign and checking to see if there was any incoming traffic from either side as there was no signal control for the cross traffic. The problem was that a large truck was blocking my left hand view of oncoming traffic and despite looking at what I could see behind the truck and stopping for a long enough time that any cars could have driven out of my view I attempted the turn. Unfortunately, there was a car that I could not see coming through and it T-boned my vehicle totaling it. This intersection has a history of causing accidents and many drivers will speed through it (which I believe the other car was doing but I have no way to prove that).
After a couple of days, I received a ticket for "inattention" while driving with the statute code R10-12-25 and a penalty of $175. The officer informed us that the ticket would not go on my record as it is treated the same as a parking ticket but I want to contest the ticket to get a reduction on the payment if at all possible. I have never received a ticket before this and have a clean driving record, what boxes do I check on the ticket and what do I say in court?
Thanks!
