Contracts and Agreements: Iso: Advice About a Strange Situation

My question involves independent contractors in the state of: Maryland

I was an independent contractor for a small company X based out of Virginia, supporting client Y in Maryland last year. Most of X's contractor were laid off last October due to non-payment from client Y. I just heard from company X yesterday that client Y is suing X, and that Y will issue subpeona to most of X's previous contractors.

I have never encountered anything like this before. My contractor-employer relation is strictly with company X, not Y. I've only received payments from company X. This is all a bit confusing. Has anyone encountered a situation like this? Any advice? Thanks.
