My question involves estate proceedings in the state of: New York
My uncle just passed away. He lived the life of a recluse in an apartment and had no wife or children and no valuable possessions of any consequence. He had been in assisted care for the past year which ate up most of his life savings. There is a will made out in 1986, but most of the people he named as inheritors and/or executors have passed except an older sister who is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's and is incapable of acting as executrix. He had a person (not a relative) acting in his behalf with a limited POA, but I understand that any POA ends on the death of the principal. Who, now, should handle his estate? Does his sister receive all the estate residue?
