My question involves a traffic ticket for the state of: Arizona
Okay here's what happened: I was driving in downtown Tucson at night around 1:00am in very light to no traffic and was turning left on what I thought was a yellow light. I soon got on the highway which was about a minute from the previously mentioned intersection. I drove the distance of one exit and as I started to decelrate I saw the good old red and blue.
I was Very cooperative with the officer. Hands visable, car off, the whole nine yards. I answered all of his questions to the best of my ability. What he told me was that he originally was going to pull me over for running a red light, but he continued to follow me. He said I was continually gaining speed and pulling away until he was going over 115 miles per hour just to keep up with me. I didn't put up a fight. And he took my License and registration back.
He returned with a citation for running a red light and another one as a criminal a traffic violation for speeding. I accepted the citations and was on my way.
So here are my questions/confusions:
1) I know for a fact I was not going over 115. My speedometer maxes out at 110 but I was checking it constantly and it barely went over 80. I know I was speeding but I believe it shouldn't be a criminal traffic case as going 80-85 in a 65 does not break the 21mph that would make it criminal. Any thoughts?
2) Upon inspecting the citation I noticed that he cited my Approximate speed as 90. Why would he tell me I was going over 115 but only cite me for 90? He also put the location as the intersection and not the highway which somewhat confuses me as well...
3) Why didn't he pull me over immediately after running the red light? Is there any reason he would follow me for over five minutes before pulling me over. He also pulled me over after I started decelerating. Why did he wait so darn long?! It just doesn't feel right...
4) Is it okay that he pulled me over for speeding without using a radar or LIDAR? I know it won't really help my case either way, but I know he didn't use one and I'm curious.
I also feel like I should mention that I'm 18 years old.
That's about it. I'd love any input or advice on this issue. I have a court date on April 5, 2016, so the sooner the better :)
