My question involves personal property located in the State of: michigan
Last week we recieved a call from our realtor telling us a company wanted acess to our home for sale. We called the mortgage company and found out they sold our mortgage. We were not notified. We call new company and they tell us because the house is listed for sale they wanted to send someone out to verify it was not vacant. We told them no and that was the end of it.
3 days later on sat. Were out and about running errands and a neighbor calls to tell me someone is at our house in a suspicious van and they are in the house. We rush home and find 2 guys standing in the doorway with a pile of our stuff. They inform us they had order from the mortgage company to see if the house was vacant and take pics. They had no badges. Showed us no paperwork. Their van was a rusted out van with another company name on side that was painted over and a small decal with this company name on back. We asked them to leave and they called their boss. She spoke to my husband and the men left. They told us they got acess code feom realtors office but come to find out they broke in thru a window and left the window off the track next to the house. When we went back in to acess the house we found coin collections and other valuable items that were hidden had been removed from the 2nd and 3rd floors and piled by the door on the first floor. We call the company again and she says they were instructed to take pictures. They went thru our personal belongings digging for valuable items and brought them down 2 flights of stairs and piled them up by the door it didnt seam right but the owner blew us off. I went home and posted on social media warning people about what happened. Yesterday i get a call from the police the company called them demanding us to remove our posts. After the cop said he wouldnt they told the cop we held them at gunpoint and threatend their lives and they were scared to death. Over the course i had my phone out takeing pics my husband never had a gun and i have pics of them standing over the pile.
The cop says i cant do anything because they didnt remove anything from the house and they had the rights to be there.
What can i do legally. I feel violated. How can a mortgage company send someone to my house to break in without notifying us and how does this company get away with trying to steal our stuff?
