My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Washington
I was fired from my job on Monday. My manager called me and told me that after 4 months, I was not learning the role fast enough and I was off the team. The job is a Sales Consultant to a software company. I received a good performance review for the first 3 months of my employment, 90% bonus payout at the end of the quarter. I have performed all of the tasks assigned without fail. My manager recently tasked me with meeting with 4 other people and demonstrating the product to them and after that, demonstrating to him so i could be "certified" and start working with customers. I did the demos with the other people and had a demo scheduled with my manager, at the time i was fired. The feedback I received from the others was positive and indicated i had done a good job.
There are two other people on the team doing the same role, but were hired two months before I was. They are also 40+ years old. They did not start demonstrating product to customers until they had 3-4 months of service also, so I figured I was on track.
Recently, we had a sales conference and all sales employees attended. It was held at a resort and after being in meetings all day, from 8-6, they would have parties and hang out in the bar. I do not like to hang out in bars and I do not drink. I chose to say hello and then retire to my room for the evening, as i was pretty tired from the meetings. My manager seems to look down on this and thinks I am "not a team player" and need to socialize more at the bar. He also has made statements to me and others regarding my "family issues'. I am a divorced father of two children and i have custody...I do not believe this has affected my performance, but i have mentioned it a couple of times to my manager as i needed some additional time for my children and needed to be there for them after work, instead of hitting the bars.
I also have neuropathy in my feet and cannot stand for extended periods of time. He has commented on that also from time to time.
So...my question: should I pursue a discrimination claim? I am at a loss and do not know what to do.
Thanks for your help!
