My question involves traffic court in the State of: California.
I have received a citation in October 2015. The police offcier told me at the time that I should receive the corresponding papers in the mail in about 4-5 days. Today is December 1, 2015 and I have received nothing so far.
Today I went to the court indicated on my Notice to Appear, hoping to ask court clerk about my case. The line was quite long and apparently there were quite a few people with the same issue as mine. Some gentleman was heliping people waiting in the line, taking their yellow Notices and checking them through "the system". He said to many of us (including me) that our cases are "not even in the system yet" and because of that the court clerk can do nothing for us, there is no point in standing in line at this time, we should just keep waiting for the papers in the mail. He also said that we can use the court web site to check statuses of the cases.
At that time I just left the courthouse. Indeed, once I got to the computer I searched for my case by my license plate number as well as by Notice number. Their online system found no record of my case.
So, what is the proper course of action now for me? Should I just keep waiting? But what about the "Promise to Appear" date indicated on my Notice? Should I just ignore it? Or am I required to at least go see the clerk before that date?
