My question involves a marriage in the state of: Colorado
The girl I am talking too is getting pretty serious and she wants to move in to this new home I just purchased. The house is under my name. I already told her I do not want to marry her since I do not want to lose my property, end up paying spousal support, or retirement and other assets I have. She is also fine with that since I told her straight out.
I would like her to move in, but I heard common law is applicable. So, I suggested no. However, it seems with this common law is preventing me and others from having people live together? I mean, if that is so, then so be it.
Overall, yes, I would like her to move in. It would be great if we split bills, split house chores; and obviously live together; but in the case of splitting up (being realistic. Anyone can split up) I do not want to pay her alimony, split whatever it is I have. Is there some kind of paper or agreement I can sign?
Other question as well, if I were to get married (which she keeps bringing up over and over again) can alimony be prevented 100% if I were to have a lawyer do a prenup on alimony, property, retirement?
Sorry for being so up front and self centered, but I have seen many of my friends moved from beautiful homes to room-mates paying alimony and just has me very skittish.
is common law just as strict as marriage? I make about 5x what she makes, so for sure she would get something.
