Contracts and Agreements: Prtotection from Employer As Independent Contractor

My question involves independent contractors in the state of: My question is in regard to the rights as a contractor. Is it legal for a company to set such high expectations that as an independent contractor I and my fellow contractors must work 2-3 sometime 4 hours overtime per shift to meet constantly raising expectations or risk losing our jobs? We are NEVER straight out told we must work extra hours but the expectations are set so high, to meet the daily unrealistic quota (unrealistic to meet in set ours of our shift) we must do it, or be terminated.
Also, is it legal for management to use such tactics as with holding work days as retaliation for such things as not working overtime, calling in sick, asking time off, (i.e. Here is what may happen: if a contractor asks for Christmas Day off, Mgmt will not put him/her on the schedule for the entire week after Christmas even though he/she only requested that 1 day off. Mgmt is known for this, so many of the 40+ contractors will not ask for time off. Many contractors come in sick for fear of retaliation. If a contractor gets sick at work, they are NEVER told they have to stay at work, BUT the contractor will stay for fear of retaliation and harassment including a phone call at home threatening their job. This actually happened to a contractor who had an allergic reaction and had to go to the hospital.) When other contractors have been let go, they are not provided an explanation, even when asked for one. So if a contractor suspects they are let go for not working overtime and working only the hours in our scheduled shift, he/she will never verbally or in writing be told so. They simply get a call or text terminating their job, if they ask why, mgmt. hangs up on them or never texts back. Phone calls are never answered and when some have tried to talk about their mysterious and sudden termination in person, the management refuses to see them and they are told to leave the premises, despite being there peacefully.
These things that I described to you are what all of us contractors are faced with daily. What are our rights as contractors to protect ourselves and still keep our jobs? There is no HR department where I work and the owner is unreachable. Thank you!
