My question involves criminal records for the state of: Washington
In 1984 in the State of Washington I was convicted of "Attempted 2nd degree Burglary" of a closed business. Since then I have never been arrested or had any dealings with law enforcement beyond a speeding ticket, I've raised a family and owned 3 homes and 2 small business. Having now divorced I moved to Illinois to take care of my aging father and our family farm. I basically forgot that the Washington incident was a felony and I applied for a FOID Card (Firearm Owners ID) and was denied based on that conviction. So this year (2015) I hired an attorney in Washington State and had my conviction vacated AND as extra insurance I also, separately, had my 2nd Amendment Right restored by the State of Washington. I spoke with someone at the State Police here in Illinois who told me that regardless of my actions to unburden myself of the 1984 conviction the Illinois State Police have a record of the conviction and therefore I have to go through the process here to have my 2A Rights restored. No one in my life knows of my 30+ year old felony and I would rather not have to involve 3 people (as per the appeal instructions) in this part of my past but I do need to have my 2A rights restored because of my rural setting... for Protection and hunting. Is there any way, as in the State of Washington, to have an attorney represent me and avoid involving my friends/family?
TIA
