My 18 year old son was approved for SSI and wants to buy a car with his backpay, but he does not have a driver's license. The backpay is a little under $2000. We do not have a car and I walk to the store to buy the groceries and other stuff and take a taxi home. I do not have the money to buy a car and will not in the future by myself. I have been on SSDI since 2000 for mental issues. Would Social Security allow my son to buy a car and of course it would be in his name? I would just drive it until he tried to get a license. If he cannot find a car under $2000 would he be able to make payments or is that not allowed? Could he and I get a car together and make payments? I hope I worded this right I can be hard to understand at times. We live in Kansas if that matters. Thank you.
