Landlord Trying to Charge Me for Mold Removal

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Michigan

Lived in rental home for 17 years. Signed a one year lease with property owner. Over the years the husband died and the wife is in her 80s and in a nursing home with dementia. For several years we had no contact point at all. We simply mailed a check to her home address. Eventually we were contacted by one of her sons. The property is now in a trust and we were mailing a check to a PO Box of a professional guardian. No phone/email contact for her. No mailing address for son.

Some repairs were made at the demand of the city. It took two years. During this time we verbally notified him of mold/mildew issues in the basement and condensation on the basement walls. No action taken.

We provided 30 days notice in May of our impending move. Today he tells me he's expecting us to pay for mold/mildew removal. If this ends up in court, does he have a snowball's chance in hell?

Thank you!
