Health Insurance Debacle

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: New Jersey

Health Insurance Debacle

Thank you for the time in reading this.

I am having serious troubles with my healthcare provider due to billing issues on their end. In September 2017, I had removed my oldest dependent from my policy as he had his own coverage. Horizon backdated his removal for me and instead of getting a credit, I suddenly starting getting invoices for $8,000. Whatever they did whacked out their billing system. In Mid December, I was told everything was back to normal. They sent me a letter stating I should have paid $23,000 in 2017, but actually paid $24,000. I have been waiting for a check of $1,000, but it never came.

Now in April, my youngest son’s pediatrician sent me an invoice for $490 stating that Horizon refused to pay his one year check up visit from December 2017. I called Horizon and they said our policy was canceled in October due to non payment. So my 4 hour phone call started out with, I had coverage and to pay the doctor her $490 payment, but now I want my 3 months premium back of about $6,000 and I will pay the doctor myself. Why would they take premium payments in October, November and December if I was canceled? And they sent a letter proving I paid, as well as sent the tax form 1095-B showing all dependents were covered in 2017 every month.

Every time I call them and there escalation departments, its a 2 to 4 hour phone call. I am beyond frustrated with their billing computer glitches.

So, what kind of lawyer do I need… I am hoping a lawyer can sue for attorney fees and headaches as well. I do not want to retain a lawyer and I have enough documentation to handle this myself in small claims. It is a slam dunk.

Any advice is appreciated.

Mike
