Robbery: Is Stay Home Robbery Planner Guilty of Armed Robbery if One Man Went Armed

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California.

I understand that RICO can lead to the prosecution of gang leaders for crimes commited by underlings at their behest. But if someone plans a robbery, orders no guns and no killing, and stays at home while the robbery is committed, is he then guilty of armed robbery if, against the planner's orders and without his knowledge, one of his men took a gun on the job and wounded a police officer (a flesh wound only) when trying to escape?

I've looked all over the web for the answer, but it seems only a police officer or a lawyer knows it. I can't find anthing online that covers it and I don't get out much anymore. Can anyone please help? I don't plan committing any crime - I'm 70 and disabled - but I'm interested in the law and don't like not understanding it.
