Civil Rights Issues: Criteria That Determine Who You Represent

The My question involves civil rights in the State of: In every civil case, there is a winner and there is a loser. Statistics dictate that every lawyer will fail his client, i’d estimate based on odds that the average lawyer loses approximately 50% of the time. Given this assumption, why is it that attorneys are so selective as to which cases they accept? They know they will lose a portion of cases they represent, yet when they speak with you, they demand details, rejecting your request they represent you, despite your willingness, or even eagerness to pay them, because they don’t see your argument? I’m reasonably intelligent, but I don’t understand this pattern, if there is any attorney willing to shed light on me confusion, I would appreciate.
