Getting Fired: Termination of Employment in France

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: France (country)
Hello,
I wonder if anyone has any experience dealing with termination of employment in France (even from a US perspective) - i.e. on which grounds can employment be terminated?
More specifically: can an employee who has cheated their time be terminated (i.e. reported say 40 hrs a week but was not at work for all these hours). Also the employee is not paid on an hourly basis but is required to be in the office (unless the absence is justified)?
