My question involves criminal law for the state of: California.
In 2014 while homeless I got an RT ticket for not having an RT pass on light rail. I did community service and case was dismissed. However I got a Failure to Appear for not coming to court when scheduled that I thought was taken care of. Also being homeless I lost the notice and didn't know when my court date was.
Now in 2017 Department of Revenue Recovery says I owe $355 for FTA. I submitted paperwork saying case was dismissed, but they said it only means the warrant was dismissed which is not true.
I kept asking for clarification 'so I owe for failing to appear on a dismissed case?' They kept saying the warrant was dismissed but not the FTA, like they wouldn't acknowledge my actual case was dismissed, but never said it wasn't dismissed.
What can I do? Thanks.
