3 weeks ago I signed a lease with a woman, she did tell me she was going thru a divorce but it has been dragging on for a few years and is not final. She told me she has 100% control over the house and she has been making 100% of the payments since he left. She has some health problems and has a power of attorney that helps her with finances who is also her cpa. Knowing this I had him ok the lease and noterize it also.
We moved in yesterday and while we were unpacking the house her ex husband showed up and said we had no right to be there, he called the police and they said it is a civil matter and we have a signed lease so he must leave. The ex says apparently the court issued an order to sell the house in 2015, I contacted the wife and she said there was no such thing, the only thing was is if she couldn't pay the mortgage they would sell it.
Where does this leave us? Can he actually evict us? What are my legal responsibilities? We signed a 1 year lease FYI
