My question involves real estate located in the State of: south carolina. My house was sold to me with a shed. My neighbor told me years ago that part of it was on his property but he was ok with that. If we go by the gis maps then more than the shed is mine. The shed has been there for my guess since 1981 when the home and 1 acre of land was sold. The building is in bad shape. I told him I was taking it down and now the story has changed. He says it's all his and not to touch it. It faces my house and my stuff is in it. It's been there for over 25 years. I plan to go to the courthouse to get the plot info since I read the gis maps aren't totally accurate. If I use the map and find the borders is that good enough or do I need to get a surveyor out? Is it worth up to 600 bucks for a junky shed?
What if part of it is on his property, who gets to claim ownership? No survey was done during the home sale. I didn't know we needed one. It's our first home and the neighbor is 84 years old. He has never been a problem until now. I was told it was my shed and sold to me with the home.
