My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: California
My car was towed by a company working with the police. As a result of their careless and irresponsible actions, I suffered damages:
a) My driver-side electric mirror is broken. Estimate Replacement cost: $350
b) A noticeable bump on the driver-side door and a bump above front right wheel. Cost: together $300
c) Car made strange and loud noise when I start it.
I wanted to sue them for the repair of the problems (cost of electric mirror $350, cost to fix bumps).
But Here is the problem I'm facing:I did not fix anything because: Less than a month later, I decided to sell the car because it wasn't the same anymore. I sold it but received less than the $3000 worth. Buyers were ready to pay this but when they heard the noise it makes once you start the engine, + the problems (abc above) they were less enthusiastic. And In the end, instead of $3000 I got $500 and it is due to the damages they did. I lost the opportunity to make $2500 more, which I could not because of their careless treatment of my car.
I realize I can't ask them to pay for bumps, broken mirror and damages to the motor and at the same time ask them to pay for the lowering of value for my car (or can I?).
