My question involves criminal law for the state of: North Carolina.
I'm a 19 year old student and I was in the mall of Fayetteville getting gifts for my sister and boyfriend and I walked in JCPenney to go to sephora. I had already bought items in other stores but I wanted to get my sister some foundation from there and then saw it was $40 some dollars. So I just grabbed it and another eyeshadow pallet from the area and walked around the store. I got some clothes and took it to the dressing room so I could unwrap and unbox the makeup. I did so and put the makeup in my bag. I walked around for a bit and then left. When I got back in my car I felt so guilty already I turned around and went back in the store to try and hide the boxes. I ran into a worker as I was walking out the dressing room with the boxes in my hands. The rest of the time I was in the store I felt like everyone was starring at me.
My question is, what should I do? Take it back and risk getting caught trying to return it or keep it? I have read so many different opinions on what to do and I just need advice. I cannot get the cops involved and I'm scared they already are. I have been shaking, feeling nauseous, and I'm constantly burning up inside and out. Someone please help me!
