Heirs and Beneficiaries: Parents Died with No Will No Beneficiaries

:confused:My question involves estate proceedings in the state of: Illinois
My sister died this month after a short battle with breast cancer. She was at a Chicago hospital at first and then transferred to hospice care in the same hospital for the duration.
Because I am the oldest sibling, her affairs medically were given to me by the hospital because she could not communicate with anyone and make decisions. The legal team at the hospital had me sign Power of Attorney papers which went on file and medically I made all the decisions for my sister.

Once she passed away, her 3 sons could not locate a will, power of attorney for financial, signatures on 401k or bank statements indicating what was to happen to her money or income taxes and I wanted to help them by finding out what can all 3 of these young men do to make this process easier for them all?
There is a death certificate, but how do they use this at all the banks, investement locations, income tax preparation and such in Illinois and what needs to be done?
