My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Washington
7 months ago we moved an elderly couple in with us. Looking back, I will never do this again. So now seven months later, no one is happy with the arrangement. We jointly decided to end the lease and move out.
They have told us they are looking for another place, but we don't see them making any efforts to move. I have a sneaking suspicion that when the last day of the lease comes, they will have done nothing to move. I know that they cant support the lease on their own unless they are going to have another roommate.
So my question is this. If I give proper notice and move out and they are still living there after the lease is terminated, am I still responsible for anything past the end of the lease? We are going to all sign a form saying that we are not going to renew the lease.
I would like to get back the enormous deposit we had to put down on the unit, but I'm even willing to part with it if it means we can move on.
We've even thought of doing a roommate release for my wife and I, but I don't know if the LL will do that as I'm sure the elderly couple cant afford to live there.
