Pretrial Procedure: Discovery to Determine Credibility of Witness

My question involves criminal law for the state of: KS

I am curious if a discovery request for phone records based on exculpatory evidence that may question the credibility of a witness, having nothing to do with the actual charge, is typically allowed in larger courts? In reviewing case law in higher courts, it seems common for judges to allow evidence that may have some bearing on a case but I am fighting friction with a municipal court over "how these records relate to the charge"...... In short, there is mention of a particular phone call in police reports made by a witness. I know during investigations that call never happened.
