My question involves criminal law for the state of: colorado
To make a long story short, my ex boyfriend is going to trial next week for 3rd degree assult of his ex girlfriend. He was seeing her and me at the same time. After his release from jail I was contacted by an investigator working for his lawyer. Wasn't aware they did this. I gave a statement over the phone for witnessing something his ex girlfriend said. Fast forward to now a year later. I moved to arizona 6 months ago and the investigator had my new address after I moved. His trial is set for next week. He is now texting me and threatening me, saying he's moving here and gives the impression he will stalk me. This morning I received a phone call from the investigator, whom I haven't talked to in 6 months or so. My question is, if I'm going to be served how does that work ? And is there a cutoff date for me being served. The address that the investigator has, I no longer live at. Am I under an obligation ? I want nothing to do with this case anymore. They have my statement so why would I be served to testify. And the drive is 8 hours if I was to go back, which I don't even have the money for anyway. What do I do at this point. I'm scared of being served.
