Eviction Process: House Mate Eviction

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Michigan

I bought a house several months ago and had a friend move in with me, it had become apparent for several reasons this was not a good idea and I had asked him to move out. There is no lease agreement and my name is on all the utilities and the paperwork for the home. I had talked to him at the beginning of March about moving and he reluctantly agreed, and I told him he had until May 30th. I have since then given him a signed and dated letter stating my issues with him and why and when I wanted him to move. Since then it seems as though he has made little to no effort into finding a place to go or working on getting his things out.

My main question is that since I have already told him he had until the end of May to leave, do I have to wait till then to try and get an official eviction notice, or can I go at the beginning of May and make sure that he is out by the 30th? also since he has stopped paying me rent would I be able to get a 7 day notice?
