My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: FL
A couple weeks ago I was contacted by cellphone by a rep for Williams and Fudge, whom I've determined to be a junk debt collector. They were actually calling for my wife and they stated this was in regards to a debt collection from USF College tuition payments. They asked me if the person they were calling for was my wife, which I said yes, and verified her birth date.
She asked if I had received documentation in regards to this debt, of which I stated I had not, but that I would review the information if sent to me. They asked if they could call me in regards to this in the future, I said yes, and I provided a work email for the inforamation.
Today I received a call from the same rep again, asked me to verify if the date provided was my wife's birthday. I said yes. They then sent me the verification documents to my email address. They said they would call back in a week to resolve.
At no point have I verbally stated that this is debt belonging to my wife nor have I claimed to have knowledge of the validity of the debt. After reviewing the information, it appears the tuition was marked as late in Mar 2008, and sent to collections Jan 2009. My understanding is that this debt has reached SOL, and therefore cannot be sued for this debt.
What actions can I take from here to request to be no longer contacted in regards to this matter. Is there any other recourse for them at this point that I'm not aware of, other than that they can attempt to contact me unless I tell them in writing to stop?
