My question involves a power of attorney in the state of: Pennsylvania
My boyfriend and the father of our unborn child, is nineteen (as am i). He is graduated from high school. He has high functioning autism and lives with his mother. She refuses to give him his health insurance information and refuses to let him know his social security number or give him his birth certificate. It was pulling teeth from a five year old to even get him a state ID card. She claims it's because he doesn't need it. She is on section 8 housing and works a full time job. My boyfriend was getting SSD but was cut off when he turned 18 due to becoming a legal adult. He does not have a mental health caseworker at the moment and has not had one for about a month. We are very suspicious that his mother has power if attorney over him and is getting money for him living with her. He signed the lease so he is listed as a resident of the address but has no income. Since she refuses to give him any of the necessary documents, even if it goes to a safe, is there any way to find out if she has power of attorney and what he or I can do about it? He is becoming a father and does not have any of the basic documents he needs, nor any idea how to be self sufficient because of her refusal to educate and help him. What can he or I do to forcefully get these documents from her? Any and all help is appreciated.
