My question involves police conduct in the State of: Virginia
Quick overview, i purchased a sports car a few years ago and was in a front end accident. The car was not declared a total loss and no insurance claim was made. I then purchased a salvaged flood car from a dealer to use for parts. I took misc parts including a section of the front suspension that is welded to the car. I had a local shop cut the old part out and weld it in my car. I did receive a title for the salvage car as well. I then contacted the local police and described what i had done to ensure it was alright to be put back on the road. They stated that since only a little part of the car was replaced its perfectly legal.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, a friend of mine that knew about my whole car wreck and the rebuild, became very upset at me. He made multiple threats towards my family (reported to police) and he also stated that he would "call his DMV investigator friend and have all my cars taken from me". So yesterday a female investigator arrived to my house and asked to search my garage and take a look at some of my vehicles. I gladly let her due to me not having anything to hide. She found misc parts from my parts car and began asking questions. I showed her what i had done and how i had both titles etc. She pointed out that on the front strut tower (the part i had welded back in) it had a different VIN number. I showed her all the VIN locations on the car and that they all matched the two titles i had. She then pulled out her phone and called a tow company. She said she had to tow my car as evidence against me. She proceeded to make multiple threats stating that "i dont know what your going to be charged with yet but your in a load of trouble". I am in shock right now and can not believe that my car was just taken out of my driveway. It wasnt even being driven as it is one of my race cars. I have invested over $20k into this car.
I called my lawyer and he wants $5,000 to suit up and press charges. I do not have $5,000 or even near that. I suggested i call the investigator and ask what needs to be done to get my car back and he (my lawyer) advised i not talk to anybody except him..
Should i call the investigator's supervisor or what should i do? The investigator states she was about to go on vacation for a week so it would be on hold for another week. Does this mean i have to pay for impound fees for a extra entire week just because she is on vacation? This whole situation is absurd and seems to be violating my 4th amendment.
