Benefits for Injured Workers: Father in Law Fell and Has Major Brain Damage. Does He Need Attorney

My question involves workers compensation law for the state of: Oregon
Hello my father in law was a maintence/construction worker at a assisted living community for 31 years. Three weeks ago he fell from a roof he was working on and landed on his head. He was touch and go with multiple head and body injuries. He hasn't regained consciousness and the doctors fear he may be in a vegative state for life. He is 63 years old and the doctors have said he'll never work again even if his brain recovers. Most likely he'll be totally disabled. I understand between workman comp and social security he and his wife will get payments/lump sum plus medical for the remainder of his life based on a formula. I'm wondering if its worth to get a workman comp attorney for my mother in law or will she be getting the same amount with or without an attorney? I appreciate your help.
