Traffic Accidents: Four Lane Highway Intersection with Stop Signed Street

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: Louiasina

I was driving in inside lane of 4 way ( 2 incoming and 2 outgoing ) . There was no stop signal on my side and another vehicle who has stop sign was trying to cross all 4 lanes to move to opposite of Highway . I do not had any stop signal or sign in coming half mile. I was just driving within speed limit of 40MPH(may be less then that ) and I hit her car in middle of her rear door passenger side. She told her insurance company that I was distracted by phone or something else. Which is not right because I braked at same time when I noticed her crossing highway .

Have not got yet police report . Needs some suggestion that what to do in this case in case if I need to rent a vehicle as this situation affecting my work schedule a lot ?
