Hello all, I was wondering if i could get some advice on a situation I'm in. So a few weeks ago I decided to go back being a Full time student one more time before i ship out to boot camp. The following day after turning in my letter of resignation to home depot i get called by one of the managers to talk in their office. I had then been told that i was under investigation for a while and that they needed to close my investigation before I leave. I had agreed to pay the charges of 200+ for the merchandise that I had given away to my cousin and sign a paper stating my actions and that I was guilty, because the LP Manager had told me that they would not contact the police and press charges. Today i received a letter in the mail with the title "settlement Offer" telling me that i have to pay 200+ and " a civil penalty component in accordance with Va. Code Ann. §8.01-44.4" . Now the total has more than doubled, but I honestly don't mind paying all of this if it simply does not prevent me from enlisting. I have been in the DEP for a few months and I had given away these items before I signed my contract, they had just not chosen to pursue any action until I was about to leave. I am planning on telling my recruiter tomorrow when i see him, but does anyone have an idea of what i will go through? For instance any waivers, since this is only being treated as a civil and not as a criminal case or i simply pay all of this off and it wont show on my criminal record. I really appreciate any advice that that anyone here can give me.
